If you want to dine out in Rome on New Year’s Eve or Day and don’t already have reservations, you are a terrible planner. Kidding! No, actually you are. But I can say that because I am too…Anyway, here is a round-up of what’s open and if your first choice is booked, ask to be put on the waiting list. Romans are notorious for no-showing and canceling at the last minute! Good luck and Happy New Year!!!

For some of the best fish in the capital, check out Il Sanlorenzo, which is open for dinner on New Year’s Eve and at lunch and dinner on New Year’s Day.

A short stroll away on via dei Giubbonari, Roscioli will be open at lunch and dinner on New Year’s Eve.

For fine dining options, try Metamorfosi, which will be serving a €220 prix fixe menu for dinner on New Year’s Eve. Pipero al Rex will be open at lunch and dinner on December 31 and January 1. Glass will be open for dinner New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Il Pagliaccio and All’Oro are both open December 31st for dinner.

For Roman fare, Cesare al Casaletto will be open New Year’s Day at lunch only.

Mesob, the greatest Ethiopian restaurant in Europe, and one of the best restaurants in Rome will be serving a buffet dinner on New Year’s eve for €35. Details here.
