I Porchettoni to Open In Rome’s San Lorenzo Quarter

I Porchettoni, the popular fraschetta in Pigneto, will open a second branch on March 3 at Via dei Marrucini 18C in San Lorenzo. Like the other venue, the San Lorenzo location will be a simple tavern modeled on the rustic eateries of the Castelli Romani where food is served on plastic plates, there is paper on the large communal picnic tables, and there is just a single glass for water and wine. Expect to find all the fraschetta classics: mozzarella, cured olives, salami, porchetta, and huge portions of hearty pasta dishes. Stay up to date on the I Porchettoni a San Lorenzo Facebook page.

Update: the proprietor of I Porchettoni sent me an email today to fill me in on his aspirations for his brand, stating that he wishes to grow into a chain providing genuine food. He also stated that the San Lorenzo branch is much larger than that in Pigneto and covers two stories. On a troubling note, he is interested in hosting toga parties to attract a young America pub crawling clientele. A small part of me died when I read that bit.

    I’ve been recently at I porchettoni in San Lorenzo, and food is served on ceramic plates, not plastic ones!! And you can ask for two different glasses, of course! All the food I ate was so good, and the best I’ve tried is liver cooked with onions.. great! But dangerous, as you continue eating and eating because it’s great, and then you’ve ate too much!
    Great place, relaxed atmosphere, nice service. Recommended!!

    Hi Katie, I am heading to Rome soon and am planning on visiting I Porchettoni– do you have any information about when they’re open (Pigneto and San Lorenzo)? Also, do you happen to know if they take bookings for dinner? I haven’t been able to find much on their website. Thanks!

      Check out my app http://www.romeforfoodies.com and their Facebook page for opening times. I don’t think they take reservations in pigneto, maybe in San Lorenzo. They reply on Facebook usually.

    I loved I Porchettoni, San Lorenzo! I was in Rome for a wedding last week, and ate there almost every night, it was that good! I saw it on Anthony Bourdain here in the US, and can’t believe it was really that amazing! Can I upload some of my pictures?
