The Museo Nazionale Romano Palazzo Massimo is home to a fantastic exhibit of 100 frescos from Pompeii, Stabia, Boscoreale and Herculaneum through March 20. The images are displayed thematically over the museum’s 3 floors and feature mythological, religious, and natural subjects. Especially interesting are the large black and red dining rooms from Moregine triclinium, fully reassembled in Rome. They were discovered in 1999 during the expansion of the A3 highway.
The Palazzo Massimo is the appropriate venue for such a show, as its permanent collection features some of the most important frescoes from Imperial Rome (3rd floor galleries). It also has a phenomenal sculpture collection and many important mosaics.
