Easter in Rome
Visitors to Rome during the Easter holiday will have the opportunity to witness many important religious rituals and masses:
March 20, 5.30PM: Beginning of the Easter Triduum and Holy Mass of the Lord’s Supper in the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano
March 21, 5PM: Celebration of the Lord’s Passion in the Papal Chapel of the Basilica Vaticana
March 21, 9.15PM: Via Crucis (Stations of the Cross) at the Colosseum
March 22, 9PM: Easter vigil in the Holy Night of Easter in the Papal Chapel

Pompeian Red, 100 frescoes on display
The Museo Nazionale Romano Palazzo Massimo is home to a fantastic exhibit of 100 frescos from Pompeii, Stabia, Boscoreale and Herculaneum through March 20. The images are displayed thematically over the museum’s 3 floors and feature mythological, religious, and natural subjects. Especially interesting are the large black and red dining rooms from Moregine triclinium, fully reassembled in Rome. They were discovered in 1999 during the expansion of the A3 highway.

Colosseum exhibit: Roman Victories
From March 5 through September 4 the Colosseum’s upper gallery will be home to the exhibit “Trionfi Romani” (Roman Victories). Works of art including reliefs, paintings, sculptures and coins will recount the history of the Roman triumph and its development from Etruscan and Hellenistic models.

Roman Forum to have admission ticket
Beginning tomorrow, March 5, 2008, the Roman Forum will no longer be a free site. All visitors must purchase tickets to the site at one of 3 booths: Via San Gregorio, 30, the Colosseum, or Via dei Fori Imperiali (next to the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina. For nearly 10 years the Forum was free but authorities cite the presence of pickpockets and unlicensed vendors as a reason for the new policy.
