After a major renovation, the Markets of Trajan have reopened. This 2nd century commercial complex built into the Quirinal hill originally featured more than 100 shops.  There were built by Apollodorus of Damascus, a famed military engineer, for the emperor Trajan as part of his vast Imperial Forum complex.  The Markets and forum, occupying 2000 square meters have been transformed into a new museum complex called the Imperial Fora Museum. Nearly 200 marble pieces and 15 models are on display, seeking to provide the viewer with a greater understanding of how the Imperial Fora (5 planned squares beside the Roman Forum) would have been experienced by the Romans.
