Today it was 95 degrees in Rome. On a hot day, some people crave lemonade or ice cream. I, on the other hand, think only of fried food. There is just something about a sweltering day in Rome that makes me want sit back with some friends, a beer and deep fried cheese, rice balls and meat-stuffed olives. Thankfully, I know the perfect place for such an indulgence: Pizzeria alle Carrette in the Monti district just a block off the Roman Forum. Now, for me, no meal of fried things would be complete without a pizza as well and at Alle Carrette they make excellent thin-crust Roman-style pizza cooked in a wood burning oven.  It is undoubtedly one of my favorite places on the planet.
