Katie Parla
I am an art historian with a classical concentration by academic training, but since moving to Italy in 2003, my interests have expanded considerably to include all eras of Italian history. I have also broadened my innate passion for food and wine, becoming a sommelier in 2007 and beginning a Master’s program in The History and Culture of Food at the University of Rome. I am currently based in Rome where I work leading scholarly and enogastronomic walks of the city. I also offer tours of Sicily, Naples & Campania, Puglia and Basilicata.
In the past two years, I have penned guidebooks for Time Out, The Rough Guide, Eyewitness Travel, and Insight Guides. As a certified urban speleologist for the city of Rome, I have produced five episodes of the History Channel series “Cities of the Underworld” in which I also appear as an expert on underground archaeological sites in Rome, Naples, and Sicily.
